Announced in 2022, the MV7 is one of the best podcaster mics on the market. Last April, Shure updated the line to include the MV7+, which has USB-C connectivity and a few new tricks designed to get a cleaner sound.
Tuesday at CES 2025The audio company has added another entry to the line. The MV7i is a “smart” microphone, according to Shure's literature. The main thing that seems to stand out is the ability to plug a second microphone directly into the MV7i via the XLR port supported by phantom power.
Once plugged in, a producer can control levels for both channels simultaneously through the Motiv Mix desktop app. This is an exciting new dimension for microphones. After all, the first MV7 made waves by bringing Shure audio quality to a desktop podcasting app.
The ability to plug in a second microphone brings back the personal conversations many of us podcasters have abandoned around 2020. Shure is positioning the MV7i as a microphone for beginners, as the company leans more towards software.
“Manufacturers no longer need separate interfaces. The MV7i puts it in a convenient and space-saving package, designed for users regardless of their level of audio knowledge,” noted Shure's Eduardo Valdes in a release. “Customized control of the microphone through MOTIV Mix makes it even easier to use.”
The interface offers several handy features including auto leveling, denoising, a pop stopper and adjustable reverb. The Motive Mix app, meanwhile, brings multiple recording options, including the ability to get both mics in the same mix, as well as multi-track mono and audio options.
