With Smart Pet Wearable Market Est $1.72 million In 2024, a new startup in the pet tech space is entering the scene with a dog tracker and collar that can link directly to satellite tracking without the need for an LTE signal.
At CES 2025, Satellite It introduced pet trackers and smart collars, including features like health monitoring, activity tracking, and even an AI coach (accessible via the companion app) to guide training and pet care recommendations tailored to your specific dog.
The company was founded by Mark Mao, now CEO, who previously worked at Huami, a Chinese smart wearable company behind Amazfit, a Fitbit competitor. Mao came up with the idea of SATELLAI when he discovered that his dog injured his leg while he was away. The smart collar is equipped with seven different sensors that monitor the pet's health, including breathing and heart rate, according to the company.
While there is a wide array of pet trackers and smart collars available, SATELLAI says its offerings differ in several ways. For example, the tracker uses a Qualcomm 9205S modem, allowing it to connect directly to satellite tracking without the need for a terrestrial signal like LTE. This means it will constantly transmit a location, even in remote areas that lack nearby cell towers The company claims it is the first dog tracker to offer such a direct satellite connection.
The tracker comes with a harness that features a built-in solar panel, so the dog can recharge it while wearing it.
Additionally, SATELLAI collars use dual signal transmitters for L1 (which is the oldest GPS signal) and L5 (the most advanced) signal, which are intended to provide more accurate positioning in cluttered environments. The company explains that using two different bandwidths is helpful when the collar is around many objects — such as trees, walls, etc. — to bounce signals.
It also offers features such as virtual fencing and various forms of corrective feedback to reduce barking or prevent dogs from walking into certain areas such as swimming pools or prickly rose bushes.
SATELLAI's smart collar will be available in February, while the company plans to launch the tracker sometime in the spring. Final pricing for either product is yet to be determined.
