UAE to reach one million air traffic movements in 2024

The Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Center in the UAE has recorded one million aircraft movements in 2024, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced.

The milestone was reached on December 22, 2024 by Emirates Flight 305 from Shanghai, in what officials described as a turning point in the UAE's aviation sector. An ANI report has informed.

This achievement comes with a 10.3 percent growth rate compared to 2023, while air traffic movements have increased by 20 percent in the past two years, according to the GCAA.

“Under the guidance of our wise leadership, the UAE has implemented innovative national initiatives and strategies to enhance its competitiveness and prominence in the regional and global civil aviation and air services sectors. Achieving the milestone of one million air traffic movements in a year is not merely a numerical achievement but a reflection of the UAE's unwavering commitment to building the aviation sector as a cornerstone of the national economy and strengthening its position as a global aviation destination. ” Minister of Economy and GCAA Chairman Abdullah Bin Tauq Al Marri said.

“This achievement highlights the country's ability to provide innovative and integrated solutions that enhance aviation performance,” he added.

The Center has implemented new systems throughout 2024 to improve airspace efficiency and reduce delays.

“Over one million air traffic movements reflect the dedication and hard work of the team at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre. It is the result of years of planning, innovation and close collaboration with our partners in the aviation sector. With an average growth rate of 10.3 percent in 2024 compared to last year 2023, we are committed to maintaining our systems and services to the highest standards of safety and efficiency, reflecting sustainable development and continuing success in managing air traffic successfully and professionally. ” added Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA.
