When he finds his way to the cellar, he tries to stop the sleeping Orlok but instead wakes him up. As Thomas runs for his life, Orlok emerges from his sarcophagus, disrobing himself.
Why artificial penises were needed in the first place for filming, chief artificial makeup effects designer David White – who made the prop – gave our Some insight into the scene.
“(Bill) knew it was coming, and as soon as I saw that shot in the frame I thought, 'Oh no, here comes the question.' Because no one said a word until then,” White said. “It was a creation above and beyond Bill's own … We had to find a way to make the whole body work for the shot where he emerges from his sarcophagus. So, around that. There was no way.”
Holt himself was candid about the awkward moments on set, saying: came After voicing in a recent interview that he could feel his feet being pushed against him, the director Robert Eggers Sent her a surprise gift.

Skarsgård was also involved in the creative process, according to his team, and had a say in helping create Orlok's mustache. Thanks to Skarsgård's input, the facial hair was initially supposed to be much longer and a different color than the final product turned out.
“There were a few different mustache sizes to choose from,” White recalls. “I offer complete diversity. At first it was a little bit bigger, believe it or not, it was bigger than what it is now and then it got smaller and if you look closely it's actually thinned in the center part and it's done on purpose so you can see a little bit more of the teeth. and everything below that.”
He continued: “I ended up adding a bit of silver, which I thought would be really nice and give a bit of extra character and suggest age, but not take it too far. And Bill was aware of that color change. So he agreed and wanted it to be.”
White added that while on set, Skarsgård tended to stay in character and was “quiet and shadowy like Orlok.” Seeing the actor in full costume, however, was far more hilarious behind the scenes than one might assume.
“When she first went on set, she was wearing half a dress and then joggers underneath,” Loder recalled with a laugh.
