Airbnb offers temporary housing to victims of the Southern California wildfires

Airbnb is helping California wildfire victims with free temporary housing.

D Rental platform Wednesday said it is teaming up with 211 LA, a longtime Los Angeles area nonprofit, in response to the ongoing wildfires.

Los Angeles County has been battling wildfires since Tuesday. Five were burning Friday morning, including the Palisades Fire, the Eaton Fire, the Kenneth Fire, the Hearst Fire and the Lydia Fire.

“Stays are completely free for guests and funded by the generosity of Airbnb.org and Airbnb hosts — many of whom offer their homes for free or at a discount through Airbnb.org,” Airbnb explained.

211 LA is identifying and coordinating temporary Airbnb housing on Airbnbs for eligible individuals, particularly those living Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica and Sylmar According to the rental platform, those who “lost their homes or were forced to evacuate” due to the fire.

Los Angeles area residents needing temporary Airbnb.org housing assistance must complete an intake form with 211 LA that can be accessed on the nonprofit's website.

To qualify, they must be “displaced from your physical home due to a recent fire,” live in an evacuation zone, have the ability to create an Airbnb account if they don't already have one, and be at least 211 LA's website. According to 18 years old.

About 130,000 people have been told by officials to evacuate the wildfires, the Associated Press reported.

The largest of the five wildfires, the 20,438-acre Palisades Fire, destroyed more than 5,000 buildings, according to Calfire. It remains at 6% as of Friday morning.

The Eaton Fire, which has been spreading since Tuesday like the Palisades Fire, remains 0% contained. Four thousand buildings were burnt.
