Carnival Corporation and plc have announced exciting changes for Australian cruisers: the P&O Cruises Australia brand will be dissolved, and two of its three ships will merge into the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. This transition means more fun and adventure on the horizon for Aussie travellers.
A new era of fun
Carnival Cruise Line will double its presence in Australia as P&O Cruises rebrands Australia's Pacific Adventures and Pacific Encounters to Carnival Adventures and Carnival Encounters. Carnival Adventure will sail from Sydney throughout the year, joining Carnival Splendor, while Carnival Encounter will be homeported in Brisbane with Carnival Luminosa, which sails from Brisbane during the summer season before heading to Alaska for the Northern Hemisphere summer. The fun begins in March 2025 with a host of exciting redesigns and new experiences ahead of the ship's maiden voyage under the Carnival banner.
Signature Carnival Experience
Cara Glamour, VP of Sales and Marketing, highlighted the unique opportunity this transition presents. “This transition presents a unique opportunity to bring together the best of P&O Cruises Australia and Carnival Cruise Lines as the brand continues to expand its footprint in Australia,” he said. At both Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter, guests can look forward to the iconic Fun Squad—a team of activity leaders who host games, contests, trivia, dancing and more. Theme nights such as the 80s Rock-n-Glow Party and Silent White-Hot Night will bring energetic dance parties on board the ships. Traditional elegant nights will also be part of the fun.
Dining and Activities
From 11am to 4pm, guests can enjoy free, unlimited daily pizza, additional charges apply outside of these hours. The youngest cruisers will be welcomed into the Turtles program, offering activities and enrichment for children under two, with the option for parents to drop off their little ones for some alone time for a small fee. Other carnival favorites for Carnival Adventures and Carnival Encounters include Build-a-Bear activities, CultureCity sensory kits, and more.
Honors P&O Cruises Heritage
While embracing the new Carnival fun, the two ships will retain some beloved P&O cruise features. “P&O fans will recognize many of their favorite food and entertainment options, while enjoying the added fun and atmosphere that Carnival is famous for around the world,” said Deborah Coggin, VP Guest Experience. New Zealand Natural Ice Cream will be on board, along with Luke's Bar & Grill and Luke's Burgers. Edge Adventure Park will continue to offer thrilling activities like zip lining, balancing and climbing. The exclusive Byron Beach Club will still be available to guests in suites and select mini-suites.
looking ahead
In 2025, Carnival Cruise Line expects around 600,000 guests to sail from Sydney and Brisbane. “Carnival Cruise Line is the only cruise line worldwide to demonstrate this level of commitment to Australia, sailing year-round and supporting thousands of local jobs while providing unforgettable holiday experiences in Australia and the South Pacific,” Glamor added. Carnival Adventures will offer a variety of itineraries from Sydney including visits to Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Queensland, Willis Island and more. Meanwhile, Carnival Encounter will offer similar cruises from Brisbane with special cruises to the Barrier Reef, Papua New Guinea and extended trips to Fiji. With these exciting changes, Carnival Cruise Line is set to bring even more fun and excitement to Australian cruisers. Get ready to embark and experience the best of carnival fun and hospitality!
