Cathay Group has announced that it has achieved a significant milestone by carrying more than 100,000 passengers, the most in a single day since the rebuild began.
Cathay Pacific and HK Express, the group's two passenger airlines, carried a combined total of 100,856 passengers on 15 December, surpassing the 100,000 passenger mark in a single day.
Since the milestone was first reached, the group has surpassed the 100,000-passenger mark on a total of eight days in peak travel for the year ending 31 December 2024.
Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam said: “We are thrilled to end 2024 with another milestone. The past year has seen unprecedented progress and expansion for the Cathay Group, thanks to the dedication and efforts of our people. In particular, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our global frontline teams, who continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our customers explore new destinations or reunite with friends and family during the holidays. “
Lam also expressed pride that the group has successfully completed its two-year restructuring journey, during which its airlines focused on adding more flights and destinations for our customers and its home hub in Hong Kong.
Restart the route
Cathay Pacific recently restarted its seasonal service to Cairns, Australia, and will launch several long-haul routes in 2025, including Hyderabad in India, Dallas in the US and Munich and Brussels in Europe.
In addition, HK Express recently added Shizuoka, Japan to its network and will launch a new service to Sendai, Japan later this month.
Together as a group, Cathay Pacific and HK Express have reached 100 percent of their pre-pandemic flights from January 2025.
It is estimated that the two airlines will operate passenger services to 100 destinations worldwide by 2025, marking another meaningful milestone for the Cathay Group.
With the launch of the three-runway system, Hong Kong entered an exciting new era.
As the city's home airline, Cathay will continue to contribute to Hong Kong's position as a world-leading international aviation hub, connecting Hong Kong, mainland China and the world.
