May Mobility, an autonomous vehicle technology startup, unveiled at CES 2025 The next vehicle in its portfolio: an electric, autonomous minibus developed in partnership with European electric bus maker Technobus.
Ann Arbor-based May Mobility Offers on-demand and fixed-route autonomous shuttles to campuses and planned communities. Today its fleet consists of 40 Toyota Sienna minivans retrofitted with May's software and hardware self-driving stack and seating up to eight passengers. Technobus vehicles, which May says will join Siena's fleet by the end of 2026, can carry up to 30 passengers, including passengers in wheelchairs.
May Mobility says its Technobus minibus is designed for urban transit, corporate campuses, airports and planned communities, with swappable batteries that minimize downtime. The company also said its upcoming bus is approved for use in Europe and Canada.
TechCrunch asked May Mobility how many of these buses it intends to add to its fleet and in which markets.
Today, the startup operates a shuttle service with wheels behind the wheel in Arlington, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; and Grand Rapids, Minnesota, among other cities. The startup also has a presence in Japan, where Telecom Company NTT Agreed to license May's technology for an AV pilot in Nagoya. May has active facilities in Tokyo and Fukuoka, according to the company.
In addition, May recently launched a Small unmanned shuttle Installation in Ann Arbor to test its capabilities without a human driver in the front seat.
