Nearly 2,000 flights were canceled, and thousands more were delayed across the United States on Monday winter storm Blasted a large part of the country with heavy snow and ice.

The National Weather Service said, “The areas with the highest snowfall in the region are likely to see the heaviest snowfall in at least a decade.”

The NWS reported that at least 18 inches of snow fell near I-70 in Kansas, while upstate New York received several feet of snow.

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a snow emergency until at least the end of the day Tuesday, while Maryland Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency and warned residents to avoid travel.
